Symposium on Health Issues Associated with the Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields and Microwave Radiation

Symposium on Health Issues Associated with the Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields and Microwave Radiation

Held for Canadian Medical Doctors and Health Care Practitioners
Presented by C4ST and Women’s College Hospital
Toronto - September 12, 2014

On 31st May 2011, IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) the specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B).
During the course of this symposium Dr. Anthony Miller argues the classification should be 2A, probable carcinogenic to humans. Dr. Miller also reviews the recent studies that link wireless radiation to breast and brain cancer. Dr. Davis presents the latest research showing the impact on sperm fertility as well as the connection with wireless radiation exposure and impaired childhood development. Dr. Hugh Taylor reviews his research showing the offspring of pregnant mice exposed to cell phones during pregnancy developed “ADHD-like” symptoms. Dr. Havas reviews the pre-conditions she has observed for electro sensitivity and handed out the Austrian Medical Association “Guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of EMF related health problems and illnesses.” Mr Frank Clegg reviews the current situation in Canada re Health Canada and Safety Code 6.
Full presentations including Q/A sessions with each panellist, as well as supporting documentation can be viewed below.

Dr. Devra Davis Ph.D., M.P.H.

Founder and President Environmental Trust Fund; former Professor, Department of Epidemiology and founding Director, Center for Environmental Oncology, University of Pittsburgh, Cancer Institute.

Dr. Davis is currently a visiting Scholar with the Goldman School of Public Policy and Management at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Davis lectures at University of California, San Francisco and Berkeley, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Harvard, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and other universities.
An award-winning scientist and writer, Dr Davis’ work has appeared in more than a dozen languages. She was designated a National Book Award Finalist for When Smoke Ran Like Water (2002, Basic Books). Her most recent book, Disconnect, selected by TIME magazine as a top pick, received the Silver Medal from Nautilus Books for investigative journalism in 2013, and is the subject of multi-media international policy-making attention.
Dr. Davis also served as a Lead Author, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change—the group awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 with the Honorable Al Gore.

Dr. Hugh Taylor

Chair, Department of Obstetrics Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Yale School of Medicine

Dr. Taylor is the Anita O'Keeffe Young Professor and Chair, Department of Obstetrics Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Yale School of Medicine and Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is also Professor of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental biology at Yale University. His clinical interests include IVF, infertility, endometriosis, implantation, menopause, uterine anomalies and DES exposure.
Dr. Taylor received his undergraduate training at Yale University and received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale. His postdoctoral training included a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility as well as a fellowship in Molecular Biology, both at Yale.

Dr. Anthony Miller, M.D., F.R.C.P.

Professor Emeritus, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto

Visiting Senior Scientist in the Monographs programme in IARC September 2011 - January 2012.
On December 2013 Dr Miller presented to Toronto City Council that RF exposure should be classified as a 2A (probable carcinogen), not a 2B (possible carcinogen). Watch HERE.
Dr Miller served as a peer reviewer to the Royal Society of Canada’s review of Safety Code 6 in early 2014. After it’s release Dr Miller commented “"..this is a conflicted panel, with insufficient expertise in Epidemiology – it is unfortunate that the Royal Society failed to amend the membership of the panel as requested by some of us. This is a report to the Royal Society of Canada, not a report of the Royal Society..." See Dr Miller’s Full analysis HERE.

Mr. Frank Clegg

Former President of Microsoft Canada, CEO of Canadians for Safe Technology.

Mr Clegg has worked in the Information technology industry his whole career. His last position was President of Microsoft Canada. He currently sits on the Board for Indigo Books and Music. Frank was involved with the creation of KINSA, a not for profit organization with a vision to create a global safety net that protects children from online exploitation.
Most recently, Frank was actively involved as the Chairman and Director of Citizens 4 Clean Air, a community group that successfully caused the cancellation of a proposed gas-fired power plant in the Oakville community and continues its effort to ensure the safe siting of future power plants in Ontario.

Dr. Magda Havas

Associate Professor of Environmental & Resource Studies at Trent University

Associate Professor of Environmental & Resource Studies at Trent University where she teaches and does research on the biological effects of environmental contaminants. Dr. Havas received her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, completed Post-Doctoral research at Cornell University, and taught at the University of Toronto
Dr. Havas’s research since the 1990s is concerned with the biological effects of electromagnetic pollution including radio frequency radiation, electromagnetic fields, dirty electricity, and ground current. She works with diabetics as well as with individuals who have multiple sclerosis, tinnitus, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and those who are electrically hypersensitive.
Since the mid 1990s Dr. Havas has taught about electromagnetic pollution in several courses at Trent University and has supervised Reading Courses and Honours Thesis Projects in this area. One of the courses deals specifically with the biological effects of electromagnetic fields and electromagnetic radiation. This is one of the few courses available in North America at a senior undergraduate level critically examining the effects of non-ionizing radiation.
